Ashwagandha
Ashwagandha: Wonder Herb of India
By Desmond Yeoh
I recently read an article by Dr. Michael Tierra on Ashwagandha and was surprised to learn of its powerful healing properties. It made me wonder why this herb is not so well known.
In 1978, the doctor visited a small village outside Bangalore where the herb grew in abundance. Many of the villagers sought him out and as most of their problems were the chronic type associated with aging, he recommended them to take the herb. During his time there, he healed patients with chronic back and elbow pain, severe reaction to polio vaccine, chronic bronchitis and yes, male impotence and chronic vaginal discharge. He was so successful that no one noticed and questioned the fact that he recommended the same herb to everyone!
He described the herb as the most potent aphrodisiacs in the entire botanical kingdom and the most valuable herb in the Ayurvedic medical system. It can be used for gynaecological disorders especially functional female and male infertility and impotence. The uniqueness of the herb is that it achieves its results through strengthening the nervous system and the reproductive hormones.
Dr. Micheal wrote, “Ashwagandha is specific for a wide range of conditions including arthritic inflammation, anxiety, insomnia, respiratory disorders, nervous disorders and gynaecological disorders”.
It is uniquely beneficial for calming the mind and as such, helps in our meditation.
Most people will feel the beneficial effect of the herb immediately but Dr Micheal wrote, “An even deeper and more profound transformation of food occur after 7 days. This is when food is transformed into blood. Only after a month, does the most refined essence of food transform into semen. It is at this deepest level that Ashwagandha exhibits its profound aphrodisiac properties”.
He also wrote, “Ashwagandha should be considered as the premier herb for all negative conditions associated with aging. This includes its use for the prevention and inhibition of senile dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease.

I have used Ashwagandha before and the beneficial effect is amazing. Earlier in my life when I was not a practisoner of yoga I found it difficult to sleep. I managed to get it in a paste form and it was really good. After finishing the bottle, I couldn`t find it anywhere, then it came in a tablet form from the Himalayan range. Its not as good as the paste form. I wonder if we can grow the plant in Malaysia,if we could it would be good.

Hi Dr. Gunalan,
I’ve been taking the Himalaya’s range of Ashva Gandha tablets for 6 months now. Where can we get the Malaysian range that you’re mentioned about? How good are they compared to the Himalaya’s brand? And the price?
Let me know.
Regards,
Thiaga

Ashwagandha can also be used on depression like St. Johns wort. This is great because it has less side effects compared to drugs. ,”””
